Main Takeaways

Itinerary

Day 1

We will meet at the bus station in El Calafate and board the bus together, enjoying a 2.5 hour ride to El Chalten.

After getting settled into your rooms, we will hike to a viewpoint overlooking the city for sunset (approximately 1 hour hike) followed by a dinner where we can all unwind, get to know one another and discuss packing list.

Day 2

Enjoy breakfast in the morning at your hotel or in the town.  We will be leaving our hotel at 10am to start our 5 day/4 night adventure on the Fitzroy Trail.

The journey to our first campsite is 8km with an easy to moderate level of hiking, with the majority of the incline in the first half of the trail.

We will stop around the halfway mark to capture a cascading waterfall surrounded by the colours of fall.

Once we arrive at Poincenot campsite (approx 3 hr of hiking), we will set up camp then start scouting compositions for sunset. This campsite is surrounded by beautiful trees and boasting an array of unique framing opportunities

Day 3

We will set out early in the morning (3 hours before sunrise) hiking to a beautiful lake. This trail has a steady incline over 2km and will be the most challenging portion of our 5 day journey.  We will allow ourselves plenty of time in order to find the composition you love for sunrise. And a cup of coffee of course.

We will return to camp for a much needed lunch and rest before exploring the reflection pools and natural gardens around the campground for sunset.

Day 4

We will depart the campsite an hour before sunrise to hike 1km (approx 40min) to a location that will take your breath away.  We will explore compositions and framing techniques well into golden hour making the most of this stunning location.

After returning to camp, we will pack, have lunch then depart on the next leg of our journey to De Agostini, our final campsite located near Laguna Torre. The trail is 10.5 km (approx 3.5hours) with an easy level of difficulty.  We will pass by Laguna Madre and Laguna Hija on our way.

As soon as we arrive, we will set up camp then head out for sunset photography within the beautiful valley.

If the skies are clear during any of our 4 nights on the trail, there will be an option to shoot astrophotography and the milky way amongst the breathtaking of Cerro Torre and Mount Fitzroy.

Day 5

Sunrise is the most beautiful time of the day in this region and we will take full advantage by departing our tents before sunrise once again settling on the shores or the bowl of Laguna Torre.  We will keep our fingers crossed for a clear view of the towers of Cerro Torre with alpine glow. If there's any ice textures that have formed overnight, unique framing compositions are abundant.

We will spend the remainder of the day exploring the area and the fall colours surrounding Laguna Torre.

Day 6

After our sunrise shoot we will pack up camp and start hiking back to El Chalten.  The trail is 9km with an easy grade and little elevation changes.  We will leave ourselves plenty of time to shoot different compositions along the way.

Once settled into the hotel, enjoy a much anticipated hot shower and rest.

Day 7

We will wake up early and enjoy breakfast in the hotel before being picked up and driven to our sunrise destination. The famous road shot.  We will keep our fingers crossed for dramatic skies and clear view of the peaks.

We will return to hotel, enjoy lunch then begin our post processing portion of the workshop.

As the workshop comes to a close, we will head out for a team dinner and recap our week.

Day 8

This is our final morning of the workshop!  After breakfast, depart for El Calafate or continue your journey in Patagonia!
